Is It the Perfect Time for Rhythm Games on PC? Harmonix Thinks So

Harmonix is well known for developing games like Rock Band and Beat Sports. These are released on consoles and played by millions of fans across the globe. However, the company thinks it is time for rhythm games to arrive to PC.

Explaining why that is the case, Harmonix first explained the reasons behind the lack of such games on PC.

First and foremost was the lack of awareness on the consumer side. There was no notable marketing effort for many of the PC iterations of past releases on PC.

Additionally, there were typically few options that actually catered to the PC audience, including PC-focused features like graphical settings or a mouse and keyboard centric user interface.

Harmonix thinks that due to platforms like Steam and Virtual Reality, rhythm games can penetrate PC market effectively. This genre hasn’t been doing too well lately on consoles. In fact, major losses were posted by parter Mad Catz after the release of Rock Band 4.

The company has already announced Rock Band VR for Oculus Rift and hopes to create a stronghold in the PC market. Console gamers seem less and less interested in Rhythm games now, so Harmonix is looking at this untapped market.

..why is the commercial rhythm game scene on PC so untapped, at least in the west? Save for a couple exceptions, very few big name IPs have been able to make a big splash on PC. There are a few possible reasons for this. First and foremost was the lack of awareness on the consumer side.
