Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Gets Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved
While not as highly-anticipated as many of the other AAA titles that are coming to the Xbox One backwards compatibility service, Bizarre Creations’ multi-directional shooter Geometry Wars has still managed to gather a fairly large casual following among Xbox players and PC users.
Geometry Wars, which put out its third game Geometry Wars: Dimensions on the Xbox One in November 2014, was announced to be coming to Xbox One on Major Nelson’s Twitter page.
The original game was first released to the original Xbox in 2003 as part of the driving game Project Gotham Racing 2. Its sequel, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 came out on Xbox Live Arcade in 2008.
It’s actually quite surprising, really; it’s not often that a minigame within another, full-release title gets to be extremely popular, but it’s even less often that both the minigame and the actual game become huge successes.
The fact that both the Geometry Wars series and Project Gotham Racing’s series have both been highly successful and well received among many is another factor in Geometry Wars being ported over to the Xbox One.
