XCOM 2 Ranger Class Guide – Abilities, Tips and How to Play
In XCOM 2, the ranger class can essentially be considered as aggressive reconnaissance and CQC class.
These soldiers are capable of moving independently in concealment while continuously engaging enemies at close range. With extensive training in swordsmanship, these soldiers truly excel at CQC.

When it comes to weapons, these soldiers really shine with either shotguns or rifles as Primary Weapons. As for the Secondary Weapon, these soldiers are equipped with a sword having insane damage output.
XCOM 2 Ranger Class
It is hard to keep a ranger alive if you decide to jump right into the middle of the combat.
The first thing that you need to know is to understand that you need to be behind a cover whenever possible; not to mention avoid getting flanked from different directions.
However, this is not always the best course of action as sometimes it is a good idea to go out and risk exposing yourself, bt whenever you decide to do so; make sure your sniper is ready at the back.
When it comes to abilities, do note that both Phantom and Conceal remain pretty useful and grant some stealth even after you have drawn the first blood.
Conceal can be used to scout the area ahead which will give you an opportunity to see what you are up against. At multiple times, you will be faced with two difficult choices and these abilities will prove to be your best bet.
One important thing to note about Ranger Class is that if an enemy tries to attack a Ranger with Bladestorm within melee range, the Bladestorm will automatically activate before the enemy attack has time to land.
Moreover, Bladestorm also activates upon a Viper using Constrict after pulling an enemy. This essentially allows the Ranger to kill a Viper even while constricted. For more details on different abilities at Ranger’s disposal, check the following section:
Starting Ability: Slash – Attack any enemy within movement range with your sword.
Phantom – Scout
When the squad is revealed, this soldier remains concealed.
Blademaster – Assault
Deal +2 extra damage on all sword attacks.
Shadow Strike – Scout
When concealed, gain +25 bonus aim and +25 bonus critical hit chance when attacking enemies.
Shadowstep – Assault
This soldier does not trigger overwatch or reaction fire.
Conceal – Scout
Immediately enter concealment once per mission.
Run and gun – Assault
Take an action after dashing.
Implacable – Scout
If you score one or more kills on your turn, you are granted a single bonus move.
Bladestorm – Assault
Free sword attacks on any enemies that enter or attack from melee range.
Deep Cover – Scout
If you did not attack this turn, hunker down automatically.
Untouchable – Assault
If you score a kill during your turn, the next attack against you during the enemy turn will miss.
RapidFire – Scout
Fire twice in a row at an enemy. Each shot suffers an Aim penalty of -15. There is no cooldown on this ability.
Reaper – Assault
A devastating chain melee attack where the first melee attack cannot miss. Each melee kill in Reaper mode grants an extra action, but further melee attacks deal reduced damage.
