Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Update and Awakening DLC Arrives for PlayStation 4 with 9.1GB Update

Black Ops 3 Awakening

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be getting a big update with the arrival of the Awakening DLC. All players will have to download the 9.1GB update, then the people who have purchased the downloadable content will have the game.

As there may be some confusion over why the download is so big, and why everybody has to download the DLC content even if they have not bought it Activision have cleared things up.

“In previous Call of Duty titles, DLC packs obtained through a Season Pass or as a standalone purchase required players to download the individual DLC pack through their console’s marketplace or the in-game storefront. However, the Awakening DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops III has been bundled into the patch released on 02/01/2016. This means there is no manual download of the DLC pack when it launches 02/02/2016 on PlayStation 4.”

They also added when the patch should be available:

“The patch is expected to be released midday Pacific time on 02/01/2016. The Awakening DLC pack will then be available around 12:01 AM PST on 02/02/2016 on PlayStation 4. Release dates for Xbox One and PC coming soon.”

To start the download and activate the map packs they advised users to follow these instructions:

“Launch Call of Duty: Black Ops III to trigger the patch and allow the game to update as normal. Once the update is fully downloaded, Season Pass owners and players who have purchased the Awakening DLC pack individually will simply need to activate the content through the in-game store.

  1. Select Store from the main menu.
  2. Select Map Packs.
  3. Select Awakening DLC to activate the DLC pack.

Once Awakening is activated, players have immediate access to the four new multiplayer maps as well as the first chapter of the Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies adventure.”

While people who have purchased the DLC will no doubt be happy with this, those who choose not to may question why they have to download the 9.1GB update and not just the patch. This may be a change in processing that proves a little unpopular for some.
