Rise of the Tomb Raider Day One Release is Cheaper than Pre-order Price
Rise of the Tomb Raider has finally arrived on PC and gamers with high-end rigs will be scrutinising how good the port actually is. It appears that some fans are already noticing one difference, not between the console and PC version but the pre-order and Standard Edition.
A user on Reddit, Jay Nullbuilt has noticed that the game, which has been available on pre-order for £39.99 on Steam has gone down to £35.99. The deluxe version has also seen the same price difference added. This price is confirmed on the Steam page. While the original poster states he is not annoyed by the price change himself, he shared the news to other interested readers.
While it is not that much of an issue, it raises into question yet again the nature of pre-orders and if they really are worth it. This is especially prevalent when it comes to the PC ports which have delivered the best product to gamers over the recent years. No matter how many incentives are offered to entice people to buy early, it may just be too risky now.
Looking down the Reddit conversation it is obvious the amount of cynicism that is growing around pre-orders and the incentives given. If game publishers want to get people to buy their games in this way, maybe they have to take notice of the feelings of the people who will be spending their money, and respect their opinion more.
In some respects this is also the last thing Square Enix needed with the Rise of the Tomb Raider release, especially with the way the game is being released. Fan displeasure, even if it is over something so small is not good.
