Sony Interactive Entertainment Announced by Sony, Will Handle All Things PlayStation
Sony has announced that Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment are going merge. Both of these entities will form one new one known as Sony Interactive Entertainment.
According to Sony, this merger will power the next 20 years of PlayStation innovation. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC (SIE) should now be considered as the HQ for all things PlayStation. This new company is based in San Mateo, California, and will combine talents and strengths of both companies (SCE and SNE).
Sony Interactive Entertainment will handle development for PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR and content on PlayStation Vue:
The formation of SIE will create an even stronger PlayStation. That means an even bigger emphasis on developing pioneering platforms like PS4 and PlayStation VR, world-class games from our World Wide Studios development teams, and innovative network services such as PlayStation Vue.
Sony remains committed to making PlayStation “the best place to play,” and this merger is to ensure they achieve their goal, not that they haven’t already; at least with PlayStation 4.
The console has sold over 35 million units and PlayStation VR is already looking like a must buy for gamers across the globe. Over 100 games are being developed for PlayStation VR, plethora of games are in the pipeline for PS4 as well. Sony is betting hard on PlayStation VR and if we look at the stats, it is safe to say that PSVR has 3x more chances of success compared to Oculus Rift.
Many VR fans may choose PS4 and PSVR over a PC and Oculus, simply due to the massive all-in price difference.
