Pokémon to Celebrate 20 Years Anniversary with Superbowl Ad
Superbowl 50 is on its way and while for some the game itself is important, for others they find more enjoyment in the television ads. This year, fans of Pokémon should keep an eye out for one that has been made for them.
The new advert will be a 30-second ad and will feature at the beginning of the third quarter of Superbowl 50. The version that you can watch above is the extended version which features more footage. Celebrating 20 years of Pokémon, it is less of an advertisement for the games themselves but more of a celebration of the players who have made it the phenomenon that it has turned into.
“For 20 years, the Pokémon world has inspired fans to train hard and have fun,” said J.C. Smith, senior director of Consumer Marketing at The Pokémon Company International. “This ad is reflective of that passion, and I can’t think of a bigger stage to share this story than the Super Bowl.”
With more than 275 million video games sold worldwide, 21.5 TCG card shipped to 74 countries and an animated series that spans 18 seasons Pokémon is still as popular as ever. It’ll be interesting to see if the game is still going in another 20 years, or if it could even last as long as the Superbowl has managed to. With plenty of competition in the likes of the Rick and Morty game Pocket Mortys, it will need to stay fresh to stay relevant. As the advertise itself says “Train On.”
