If you are a fan of DayZ and still play the online survival game, now may be the time to change your password. It appears that Bohemia Interactive’s servers may have been the victim of a hack.

This has been revealed by Rock, Paper, Shotgun who reveal that there definitely appears to have been an attack on the servers, to the extremes that they managed to get hold of some of the source code to the game.

Another confirmation of the issue is a Tweet from the DayZ Development Twitter account that advices users to change their passwords:

Bohemia also gave a full statement on the matter to Rock, Paper, Shotgun in which they reveal:

“We have recently detected an attack on some of our servers, the precise nature and scope of this attack is currently being extensively investigated. There were no user data on any of the servers. Current development goals and schedules for our games will not be affected by this attack.

More information will follow as our investigation continues.”

While this is good news on face value, if source code was truly stolen then this will be a more worrying situation. Having the code can lead to cheats, bots, and further hacking tools being created based on weaknesses discovered and hooks in the code that allow the hacker to effect the game. Hopefully this worst case scenario won’t take place.

We can be sure that Bohemia Interactive will take all precautions to make sure the gaming experience is not affected. Most importantly they will be making sure that no user data was stolen in the process of the hack.
