XCOM: The Long War Modders Invited to Create XCOM 2 Content
XCOM 2 developer Firaxis Games has announced that creators of XCOM mod, The Long War, have been invited to work on the upcoming game.
The details are scarce as of now, but Firaxis Games has indeed confirmed that The Long War team will work on ‘Multiple Mods’ all of which will be shipped alongside the game at its launch.
Since The Long War essentially altered almost every aspect of the game by introducing a longer and more difficult campaign, forcing players to make more strategic and in-game choices and customization options; it is safe to assume that the upcoming XCOM 2 mods will be directed at the hardcore XCOM community.
Last year, XCOM 2 development team announced that the game would boast modding on a large scale and would provide users with script source code and around 50 GB of game assets:
We’re providing a tool for Steam that anyone who buys the game will be able to get. XCOM 2 players will have access to a Visual Studio isolated shell app that can build mod projects. Going further, Firaxis will ship the Unreal editor that they used to build the game. Finally, the studio will provide the script source code and around 50GB of game assets.
This is not all! The developers also confirmed that users will be able to create co-op mods provided that they supply their own matchmaking servers. It is good to see that Firaxis is delivering what it initially promised. I’m personally excited to see how the modding community will render the game even better than what developers intended.
Coming exclusively on PC platform, XCOM 2 is scheduled to release on Feb. 05, 2016.
