Update: Xbox’s Major Nelson has confirmed that The Witcher 2 is free on Xbox 360 until Feb. 05, 2016 and that it is now available on Xbox One via Backwards Compatibility.

CD Projekt Red’s 2012 role-playing game The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition is currently available for free on Xbox 360.

This is an unexpected treat that has seemed to work for many, however, do note that the game is not available across all regions. While I cannot confirm all the available regions, but users outside Canada and U.S. are unable to download the game.

The news has also been confirmed by CD Projekt Red’s Event Manager Bananq on a Reddit thread:

Those of you who do not know, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition was one of the free Games with Gold back in January 2015 and Microsoft erroneously put it up again for January 2016. Last year, CDPR’s Marcin Momot also confirmed that the game will soon arrive on Xbox One via Backwards Compatibility so it seems like a good idea to download it and keep it in your library.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, on the other hand, is set to receive its Blood and Wine expansion sometime this year which will carry Geralt’s journey forward and eventually conclude it.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition is currently available on Xbox 360, and PC.
