Shovel Knight Amiibo is Designed To Be Scanned In-Box
Now that the Shovel Knight Amiibo has finally been released it comes with something fairly unique. For collectors of the figures that want to keep this one in its box, they can scan it into the game without having to take it out.
While to some people this is an interesting and nice feature, it has also caused some worry. In fact it appears that some thought it was a packaging flaw. Polygon got in contact with Yacht Club Games to see if they were aware of the “flaw”, who cleared things up:
“We got a lot of feedback from fans before release who wanted to be able to scan the amiibo inside the packaging so they could still use the figure [in-game] while keeping it as a collector’s item,” David D’Angelo of Yacht Club Games told us.
“We didn’t see much issue with their request: while you can stand with a 3DS in store and try to scan it — we didn’t think that was actually something people would do due to the nature of the content we were making.”
They also confirmed that Nintendo were happy with this decision, so there is nothing to worry about. If this new design of packaging proves to be popular it will be interesting to see if Nintendo change their design to fit this.
One thing this does raise though is the security flaw that this may raise. As Amiibo packaging normally have blocking strips to stop people from scanning them in store what if they do so knowing of the Shovel Knight flaw? Hopefully this won’t become an issue.
