With pre-orders being cancelled for Hitman it was clear that something was changing around the games release. Today Square Enix have revealed the changes and what they mean for players.

The change is that Hitman will now be a “truly episodic AAA game experience” built around a main live component. The players will perform hits on targets in exotic locations around the world based on these added episodes.

This will begin with the Prologue Mission and Paris location which will be available March 11. The next location to be released will then be Italy in April, with Morocco being released in May. From that point Hitman will then get content delivered in monthly updates which will include additional locations with the likes of Thailand, the US and Japan being added. Japan will be the final location of the 2016 season. These will also include weekly “live events” and other content.

“We decided to take the full leap and publish HITMAN as a truly episodic game experience,” said Hannes Seifert, Head of Studio at Io-Interactive. “Part of that decision is for that little bit of extra time to ensure every location we release is at the quality level fitting for a HITMAN game. But the main driving reason is that this will allow us to create a living game that will expand and evolve over time and establish a foundation for the future – this is the first game in a storyline which will continue and expand with future Hitman games.”

The initial Intro Pack will contain the Prologue and Paris levels which will be $15 with the other locations releasing at $10 each as add-on packs. If you want everything in one payment, this will cost $60, with a physical release coming at the end of 2016. If you buy the Intro pack and decide to upgrade, this will cost $50.

On top of all of this PlayStation gamers will also get the Sarajevo Six pack featuring 6 Bonus Contracts. These will be released with each location and will be available for PlayStation 4.

The Beta will still be taking place between February 12 and February 19 on PC and PlayStation 4. Guaranteed access will be given to those who pre-order the Intro Pack or Full Experience, when those pre-orders are available again.
