Psychonauts 2 Story: Raz in HQ, Necromancy, Girlfriends and More
Well, Psychonauts was a definite success and a pivotal part of that was the storytelling. Now that we are backing Psychonauts 2 and things appear to be right on track (celebrations all around), the story of the sequel has also been shared.
Tim Schafer recently talked about how he has wanted to work on this story back at the time of the original Psychonauts, he even kept a diary with all the details – thankfully our $3 million crowdfunding has helped him actually start working on it. So what exactly is it that is so interesting about the game this time?
Well, to start with, Raz has finally made it to the Psychonauts headquarters meeting Sasha and Milla “in their natural environment–international espionage.”
However, things are pretty dark there as Schafer explains “while Truman Zanotto was missing, several changes to the direction of the organization were made by his second in command. Funding was cut from traditional psychic research and peacekeeping, and redirected to unorthodox, fringe endeavors, including the discredited practice of necromancy.”
Necromancy? Hell yeah. I am only hoping to get into some really weird creatures, though. Anyhow, the story of Psychonauts 2 goes on:
Raz soon uncovers sinister things at work in the shadows of Psychonauts headquarters, including double agents and evils of the past. Raz’s own family history plays a pivotal part in the story, and Raz must confront the roots of the curse placed on his family once and for all. And also deal with this whole “girlfriend” term and what it really means.
If you ask me, this is almost exactly what an ideal storyline would have been for the game, and although Schafer says they are still adding things to it here and there, the rough basis of it appears to be pretty interesting.
Psychonauts 2 comes out for PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2018.
