Oculus Rift Shipping Date Moved to June; Stockouts Expected

Oculus Rift shipments delay

Despite the disappointing $599 price tag and the hue and cry from fans that had to be answered by Palmer Luckey himself, Oculus Rift preorders were sold out in just 14 minutes after they went live.

A few hours onwards, if you check the official website of Oculus now and make a preorder, you will find that the shipping date for your order appears to be June 2016.

This was initially March 2016 but it didn’t stay there for long. As more orders were received the date was moved a month forward to April 2016 and since the influx of purchasers hasn’t slowed down, it looks like Oculus will require a lot more time to meet the demand.

Needless to say, that trend suggests we will soon be looking at a much later shipping date.

Also, we could come to a stage where Oculus Rift preorders are stopped by force because it would become tough to meet the deadlines with limited stock. In that case, if you have not placed your order by then, you will have to wait until the time Oculus is sure they have enough stock to take in another wave of orders.

That being said, starting April Oculus Rift is going to be shipped to some retailers (in a selection of regions) but in limited quantities. That will also be a suitable time to get your hands on one in case you don’t want to wait beyond April (and given that you have it in you to be there first in the line for the physical purchase or something).
