Ubisoft Doesn’t Like The Division vs. Destiny Comparisons
While there is no doubt that Ubisoft is looking to take on Destiny among console MMORPGs with Tom Clancy’s The Division – something apparent from their similar approach towards rewards system as well as content – the developers still do not like the idea of being compared with Bungie’s mega hit.
IP Developer, Martin Hultberg, didn’t explicitly say that they are growing weary of the comparisons, but it was pretty much evident when he was asked to comment on it. While talking to GamesTM recently, he pointed out towards the cardinal differences between the two titles, the foremost among which was a setting that is based in a more realistic approach.
Stating that being built in the ground reality and “an actual ‘what if’ scenario” is something that sets them apart, Hultberg went on to list down a few things that Destiny as well as other games are focusing on that The Division doesn’t have.
We have no aliens, no zombies or strange monsters running about. The Division is based on a real threat, a clear and present danger to our society.
The problem is, he conveniently ignored the gameplay elements of the game that scream out Destiny; take a look at the loot system of the game for instance.
Anyhow, we are still quite pumped about Ubisoft’s biggest – despite all those delays, I must add – and the recently shared details regarding FOB branches, soloing the Dark Zone as well as the possible inclusion of Brooklyn to locations has given us enough juice to wait for it.
