Rise of the Tomb Raider Sells Over 1 Million Copies Since Release
As we reported, Microsoft have been celebrating their success in 2015. One of the interesting pieces of information revealed is that Rise of the Tomb Raider is one of the games to have sold over 1 million units.
As a timed exclusive for Xbox One and Xbox 360, one of the questions raised was how would this affect the sales of the game. It is obvious to see that Microsoft see this release as a success, alongside their other exclusives that were sold over the holiday period: Halo 5: Guardians, Forza Motorsport 6, and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.
If Steam is to be believed Rise of the Tomb Raider will also be coming to the PC in January 2016. If this is true, then the game is likely to see even more success as we move into 2016. With the release of the game on PlayStation 4 at the end of the year, it will be interesting to see which gaming platform sees the best sales for the game. With Xbox having the early lead in sales, odds should be in their favour.
Whichever gaming platform comes out on top, the real winner here is Crystal Dynamics who have taken a gamble in releasing the game on Xbox first. Although we are still to see how the game will sell on PlayStation 4 when it finally arrives, I’m sure that there will be a few offers to get the fans interested in the latest chapter of Lara Croft’s adventures. That is of course, unless they have bought the game on Xbox One already.
