The Division Gets ‘Mature’ Rating from ESRB

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has release their ratings for a set of titles, out of which Ubisoft’s The Division has been tagged as for Mature audience.

Tom Clancy’s The Division has been showcased to have a lot of intense violence, blood, and strong language, and that is exactly what reasoning behind ESRB’s Mature rating for the game.

“This is a third-person shooter in which players assume the role of a sleeper agent of The Division, a secret government agency designed to respond to major disasters. As players explore urban areas after a bio-terrorism attack, they combat street gangs and militias in realistic tactical fire fights; characters mostly use machine guns, shotguns, turrets, and grenades to kill enemies. Combat is highlighted by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and large splashes of blood. Several sequences depict corpses, some tied up or hanging from railings, and players must rescue hostages in some levels of the game. Cutscenes occasionally depict bound hostages being stabbed or shot in the head. The words “f**k,” “sh*t,” and “a*shole” appear in the dialogue.”

Earlier last month, The Division was also rated by the Australian Classification Board. The ACB gave the game a MA 15+ rating, with similar primary reasons: strong themes of violence and crude language.

Additionally, ESRB also released ratings for the likes of The Witch and the Hundred Knight: Revival Edition for PS4, which was given a Teen rating for blood, crude humor, partial nudity, sexual, themes, and violence.

Tom Clancy’s The Division is scheduled to release on March 8 this year for Xbox One, PC, and PS4. While Ubisoft hasn’t set a date, they have confirmed that there will be a beta for the game in early 2016.
