Steam: Hidden Password Prompts Hint at Something Big

Okay so don’t jump the gun on this one with the obvious first choice because we are not saying this has anything to do with Half Life 3 – we have been down that road enough to stop shooting in the dark. However, users have stumbled upon a hidden password prompt that keeps popping up on a number of game pages on Steam and the whole thing appears to be hiding something.

Some users have figured that if you go to any store page, type “search” and hit Enter, you get a password prompt screen (see below) that doesn’t give away anything at all except that this javascript controls the prompt.

Now, if you get the right password for this prompt, it takes you to another page and the same process repeats there.

Users have found out that there was a code on the Winter Sale comic’s front page and after going through the aforementioned process on the Hitman: Codename 47 page, and entering the said code, the users were given yet another code which was “4f21ca7.”

They tried putting it in the URL (store.steampowered.com/wintercomic/4f21ca7) and it ended up with an audio file being played. Here’s what it said:

I was on the right track, I could feel it. Tomorrow, I was going to search again.

So far, a connection has been established between the comic and the store listings although nothing is clear. People have also figured that going to this URL and entering “Hot toddies and maseratis” in the prompt brings them to the page of Undertale.

A mind map has also been set up to join whatever clues can be found; but it is apparent that we are far from reaching a conclusion here.

Something tells me that we have until January 4 (the end of the sale) to figure it out on our own.

We will be keeping an eye on this and Steam for any official word, but we would also love to hear your input on this. Let us know in the comments below.
