Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is Rumoured to be Getting “Call of Duty Points” Microtransactions
If reports are true it appears that a new in-game currency is coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. If these are confirmed, this looks like a universal currency that can be topped up with real world money.
Charlie Intel are reporting this, as well as showing several screenshots as proof. They also feature an image of a search result that shows the ability to purchase bundles of Call of Duty points, this image can be seen below.
Call of Duty Points are described as:
“the universal in-game currency in Call of Duty: Black Ops III to obtain Black Market Supply Drops, Vials to create GobbleGums.”
So if they are real, then do push towards new microtransactions. While merely speculation right now, the release date for the Call of Duty Points appear to be December 15. As this is tomorrow, then we are likely to see them appear sometime through the day if they are real.
Microtransactions in games are reaching a point now where we just have to accept them as something that is part of the game. This is similar to other games like Destiny with its use of “silver” which allows Guardians to buy emotes and cosmetics.
While we don’t know what will be purchasable with the Call of Duty Points, hopefully they won’t have too much impact on the game. Giving the players an added edge over players who don’t pay for the items normally leads to annoyance from players and to inevitable complaints.
As this is just a rumour for now we’ll have to wait for confirmation from Activision on this one.
