Are Nintendo Software Technology Making a Free-to-Play Amiibo Game?

By   /   Dec 14, 2015

If rumours are true the Amiibos may be getting their own free-to-play game. The popular figures will be used to unlock content, though we don’t know much about it yet.

This rumour has been reported by Nintendo Life who say that it is Nintendo Software Technology who will be working on the game. They are the studio responsible for Wave Race: Blue Storm and Mario vs. Donkey Kong.

While the game will be released as free-to-play to anybody who has an Amiibo, though this will only be part of a special promotion, with the game going retail after it ends. The game is rumoured to be finished and aiming for a release in North America early 2016.

Another interesting note about this game is that Nintendo of Europe are said to be looking at releasing it completely free, though the reliance on the Amiibos won’t make it truly a free game. It will be interesting to see what the truth around it is.

It appears that Nintendo Software Technology have many rumours surrounding it as the same news piece also states that Shigeki Yamashiro is looking to make the studio a totally mobile studio. Though the staff are said to not be happy about this idea.

Nintendo Life say they trust their sources and have faith that what they’ve revealed is true. They also note though that these details could be subject to change, and should be treated as rumour. With any news that hasn’t been confirmed, this is always speculation until proof is provided, so this is interesting but for now just something to keep an eye on.
