Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII Crashes, Errors, Loading, Resolution, FPS, Tweaks, Bugs and Fixes
Lightning is sweet so when a game in the series is dedicated to her, I am sure many Final Fantasy fans would want to play it. Similar is the case with Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII. Although the game has been out on consoles for a long time, PC master race is excited to finally have the game on their preferred platform.
Performance wise, the game runs great but there is a small issue that the port is locked at 60fps 1080p by default. If you can ignore that bit, the game is a pleasant experience overall.
However, the game does have some small issues that may hinder your experience. Like always, we have shortlisted the most common issues being faced by the game with possible workarounds and fixes. Feel free to browse through them.
#1 Lightning Returns – Game Stuck at Loading Screen
This issue has also been attributed to antivirus tools especially Avast blocking or removing game’s files. If disabling it doesn’t help, you might have to re-install the game with antivirus disabled.
#2 Lightning Returns – Resolution Issue
Sadly, Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII only runs at 1080p and you can’t go beyond that be default. However, some dedicated fans are already trying to scale it up and we might eventually have an unofficial way to make that happen. You can check out the discussion here.
#3 Lightning Returns – FSAA Fix
If you are not satisfied with FSAA and it’s not working the way it’s intended to be, you can try this work around. You are going to need Nvidia Inspector for that.
#4 Lightning Returns – Game Stuck at Square Enix Logo
First thing you should do to fix the issues verify your game files. Restart Steam and the game should work fine. If doesn’t help, you might have to disable your AV/security software and re-install the game. The flags (by antivirus) are false positive so you don’t need to worry about them.
#5 Lightning Returns – Game Crashes on Startup
There have been reports that Afterburner/RTSS (Riva Tuner) can cause Lightning Returns to crash on startup. So if you have these tools installed and you are facing the same issue, try disabling these tools. Some users seem to have fixed the issue by updating these tools so you could try that too.
#6 Lightning Returns – Virus Detected During Installation
As mentioned before, antiviruses may display warnings while you are installing or running the game. They are false positives, ignore them (you can add exception or disable the antivirus tool) and proceed with the installation.
#7 Lightning Returns – The Game Won’t Start on Windows 10
Again, it could very well be your antivirus causing issues. Just disable it and try running the game again. You might have to re-install the game with antivirus disabled.
#8 Lightning Returns – Performance Issues on Laptops
You should make sure that the game is being run using the dedicated GPU (Nvidia/AMD) and your machine is plugged in while playing.
#9 Lightning Returns – Stuck at Loading After First Cinematic
I am not sure whether it will work or not but it’s worth a shot. Changing your voice language from Japanese to English can fix the problem for you.
#10 Lightning Returns – Nvidia Performance Issue Fix
People with low frame rates on Nvidia cards and the ones with SLI should consult this post if you are experiencing bad performance and low FPS.
#11 Lightning Returns – Tweaks
Although the game is locked at 60 FPS and 1080p by default, there are still a few tweaks you can try out to boost the performance and make it look better. You can check out the discussion here for details.
