You Won’t be Able to Have More than One Companion in Fallout 4; Bethesda Confirms
Bethesda has confirmed that players will not be able to have more than one companion on their journey across the Wasteland in the upcoming Fallout 4.
In Fallout 3, players have the freedom of having two companions alongside them in the world, but this will no longer be a thing in Fallout 4, as confirmed by Bethesda’s Pete Hines.
When asked on Twitter the reason behind sticking to single companion only, Hines said that every Fallout game is different and Bethesda does not tend to use the same formula over and over again:
Every game is different! We do not keep things the way they were in a previous game. That’s how they wanted it to work in FO-4 [Fallout 4].

So there you have it! In case you were rooting for having a humanoid companion alongside Dogmeat, you may be out of luck. However, I sincerely hope that the ever-shining modding community will come up with a solution.
Fallout is scheduled to release on Nov. 10, 2015 on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
