Sony’s PlayStation 4 has been on the receiving end of overwhelming success since it came out back in 2013. In most regions PS4 is the leading platform but strangely, it isn’t that big in Japan, it’s home turf.

However, things may change pretty soon.

Sony reduced the price for PlayStation 4 in Japan recently, same is done for U.S, Canada. This price cut has helped PS4 get a boost in sales in the region, as shown by figures revealed just days ago.

  1. PlayStation 4 – 46,177 (4,071)
  2. New 3DS LL – 18,136 (21,765)
  3. PlayStation Vita – 15,237 (19,078)
  4. Wii U – 12,843 (18,024)
  5. New 3DS – 4,367 (5,069)
  6. PlayStation 3 – 2,088 (2,630)
  7. 3DS – 1,160 (1,529)
  8. PlayStation Vita TV – 761 (790)
  9. 3DS LL – 587 (747)
  10. Xbox One – 203 (232)

Sales boost has resulted in PS4’s total lifetime sales going up to 1.8 million in Japan. This will help increase Sony’s confidence in the region, and better install base means we will see more JRPGs coming to PlayStation 4.

Holiday 2015 will be tough for Sony as the company is missing that big AAA exclusive. But, 2016 will surely be a strong year for Sony’s platforms if there aren’t any more delays. We’ll be seeing Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian, Fantasy VII remake and more games heading to PS4.
