World of Warcraft Legion Expansion Been in Planning for Years

By   /   Sep 8, 2015

While there have been a few expansions for World of Warcraft over the past years, it appears that Legion has been on the minds of Blizzard for a while. In a new interview with Gamereactor they revealed the choices that had to be made.

When talking about Legion, Tom Chilton the Game Director revealed:

“We go through multiple expansions at a time and there was a point in which we were trying to decide the order of which should come first, Warlords of Draenor versus Legion … and we had decided that the right thing story wise was for Warlords to come first and lead into Legion. So we have known what we are going to do on core level since two and half three years ago or so now. It was around 2012 we were talking about that.”

With Legion being years in planning, I’m sure that this makes fans of the World of Warcraft hopeful for what will be included in the new expansion. In the video interview, which you can view here, both Chilton and Lead Game Designer Ion Hazzikostas reveal quite a bit of information about Legion so it is well worth a watch.

In the video they mention that while the idea of Legion has been years in development the functionality of the game is what gets more focus during the development of the game. With new areas added and the Demon Hunter classes, the developers have to be careful about what they promise, before actually knowing what they can deliver in the final release.

The video is interesting because they discuss the development process and where they started off, what was then built on and how they plan out the release of the game.
