Guild Wars 2 is Now Free to Play, But With Certain Limitations
Guild Wars 2 is ditching its one-time purchase fee and are going for a ‘free-to-play’ model starting from today.
The announcement was made official today at the Guild Wars 2 panel at PAX Prime, along with the reveal of a new expansion for the game called Heart of Thorns, which will be released on October 23.
While free-to-play is generally a highly welcomed model for MMORPG games, they do have certain limitations, and Guild Wars 2 is no different. There will be certain restrictions to the f2p version of the game that do not apply to current players. Free players will have fewer characters and bag slots, and wil be restricted to certain zones until specific level goals are achieved.
You can see the full comparison between paid and free versions of the game on the official Guild Wars 2 website.
In addition, existing players will receive a Royal Guard outfit today as the game goes f2p. This will allow paid players to differentiate between themselves and those who sign up for the f2p version of the game.
Guild Wars 2 was released back in 2012 for PC and received critical acclaim for its depth and massive world.
