Gender Choice in Fallout 4 Doesn’t Alter Your Experience
In the past we have sometimes seen when a player is given the choice between a male or a female character, the choice also impacts what experiences that players gets from the game. However, Fallout 4 won’t alter the game experience based on gender roles.
This was iterated by Pete HInes the vice president of marketing and public relations at Bethesda while he was talking to the official Xbox Magazine recently.
Hines says that although “slight” changes are expected, they want the core experience to be the same for everyone regardless of the gender they select for the character.
So in other words, you get to do everything that a male character does even if you choose a female character in Fallout 4:
There are some slight differences, but as far as the basic experience of playing the game, we wanted it more to be a part of who you want to be, as opposed to locking you into this or locking you into that because you decide to play as male or female.
Whether that be who you can have a relationship with, or the choices you can make. We want that to be pretty open-ended so that the player is more in charge of who they are, as opposed to the designer making a decision that the player wasn’t involved in.
Now there are two ways to look at it. You could say that this is good because all characters are treated the same but on the other side you could say providing different experiences for different characters could boost replayability of Fallout 4. Which one do you side with?
