Old Leaked Footage Reveals what Doom 4 COULD have Looked Like
Although we now know what the latest version of Doom looks like, and what to expect, at one time it could have been very different. While footage of this other Doom 4 was thought to have been removed off the internet it appears that it has been found once again.
Looking at the video one thing that is most noticeable is that it just doesn’t feel like Doom. For all the criticism given to the latest version of the game, I can’t help but think that fans are glad that this leaked footage is not the route they would have wanted Doom to go in.
Bringing the fight to Earth does seem to be a good plan, but if this leaked footage could be described as anything it would be “Gears of Doom.” Doom fans don’t need a game that reminds them of Gears of War, or Call of Duty. What they need is a first person shooter that focuses on action, with a design that not only worked for solo-player modes but opened up for multiplayer battles too.
If you want to read about the history of this apparent leaked footage, read the description included on the video. It gives the history of the game, including the fact it was in “development hell” and it comes as no surprise looking at the footage.
Maybe the most telling quote was from ID’s Tim Willits:
“Every game has a soul. Every game has a spirit. When you played Rage, you got the spirit. And [Doom 4] did not have the spirit, it did not have the soul, it didn’t have a personality.”
