Lord of the Rings Fans Want £1.85 Billion to Recreate Minas Tirith City Replica
You read that right, some folks are crowdfunding to recreate a life size replica of not a small thing in the Lord of the Rings universe but the whole city of Minas Tirith!
So what would you need if you wished to build a life size replica of that multi tiered tall and handsome city? My best guess is billions of dollars to start with.
Guess what, the fans are doing just that at IndieGoGo as we speak! They have set the goal at £1,850,000,000 (£1.85 billion) and in the 17 days that have passed in the campaign, as many as 2,066 people have already donated £80,488 to the cause.
The idea sounds ludicrous of course, and the amount raised is far less than what they should have if this thing needs to work, but hey, are you really expecting a whole city to be built with crowdfunding like that?
Anyhow, the intentions are pure:
We are a team of Tolkien fans who are passionate about creating a beautiful, inspirational and fully-functioning replica of Peter Jackson’s depiction of Minas Tirith, as seen in his Lord of the Rings films. We all share a love of Tolkien’s work, and a desire to challenge the common perception of community and architecture. We believe that, in realising Minas Tirith, we could create not only the most remarkable tourist attraction on the planet, but also a wonderfully unique place to live and work.
The campaign still has 43 days left, so if you want one of the classiest places from Lord of the Rings to come to life, this is where you should spend your money – or not.
