Microsoft Explains Why it Couldn’t Show Gears 4 at Gamescom 2015
Microsoft has stated the reason as to why it did not show Gears 4 or Gears of War: Ultimate Edition at Gamescom 2015 in Cologne, Germany.
Despite the fairly decent show that Microsoft put up during Gamescom 2015 Press Conference, I was a little let down when I did not see Gears 4 or Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. As it turns out, Microsoft was restricted by the country’s video game rating laws.
Speaking to Game Informer; a Microsoft representative said that Gears of War is restricted in Germany and there are strict guidelines as to what can be broadcasted within the country. He further added that despite the global viewership, there could have been serious penalties had Microsoft showed a restricted game on a broadcast live from Germany.
Understand that the franchise is not ‘banned’, but highly restricted which makes its sales impractical and publishers do not often engage in the distribution of titles coming under such categories.
Anyway, despite Microsoft did not show Gears of War on Gamescom’s stage, the company did announce that anyone who will play Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before the end of 2015 will have access to complete franchise on Xbox 360 to be played on Xbox One via Backward Compatibility.
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is scheduled to release exclusively on Xbox One on Aug. 25, 2015. As for Gears 4, it will release sometime during Holiday 2016 – also exclusive to Xbox One.
