Physical Copies of Shenmue 3 May be for Backers Only
If you want a physical copy of Shenmue 3 when it is released on PC and Playstation 4 you may have to be a backer of the game’s Kickstarter campaign. With no confirmation as of yet whether a physical version will be available the only way to buy it may be digitally.
The game, which has raised over $5 million in funding does offer a physical version as a perk, this is the Special Backer Edition for people who paid $60 or more. Vg247 report that when they contacted Ys Net via email the response on whether it would be available physically upon release, the reply was “Whether Shenmue 3 will be available for retail or not is currently unconfirmed.”
This doesn’t mean that there isn’t a possibility for a physical retail version to be available, if there was enough of a call from the gaming community, especially the backers, this may lead to a decision being made. It may be a case of the publishers of the game having to decide if this is a priority for the games release.
The debate between digital vs. physical release is one that continues, though gamers are moving more to purchasing games digitally because of the ease and instant access. There are plenty of people who do still prefer the security of having the disc for their game though, not trusting digital distributions to safeguard their ability to get to the game they paid money for.
While fans wait to see how this situation plays out, Ys Net will provide updates on the Kickstarter page, but there is no time frame as to when it will be answered or even if.
