With all the gameplay videos and the developer discussions, at one point it felt like Dead Island 2 was sailing swiftly towards a smooth release.

Then came rumors (and later confirmation) that the game’s release had been pushed to 2016 – to the dismay of all the zombie apocalypse fans.

This was back in April and everything has been quite at publisher Deep Silver and developer YAGER until recently. You might not like it, but it has been confirmed that YAGER is no longer developing Dead Island 2.

Deep Silver issued an official statement to announce the news:

With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve. After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner YAGER. We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage.

Okay so may be I am reading between the lines a bit too much but it seems that the only explanation that Deep Silver has given before stating the removal of YAGER is that “always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve.”

Were they trying to say that YAGER was not able to give the fans what they deserve and that they parted ways for this reason?

Deep Silver has not revealed name of the developer that is now going to take charge of the game but whoever it is will be the third development studio to get their name attached with the game.

Originally Techland was supposed to make Dead Island 2 but they ditched it for Dying Light making way for YAGER. Does this mean the game is in trouble?
