Rumor: Sony May File a Lawsuit Against Square Enix Over Rise of the Tomb Raider

According to a new rumor, Sony might be planning to file a lawsuit against Square Enix for not talking about Rise of the Tomb Raider.

According to a new and very interesting rumor, Sony may be planning to sue Square Enix over Rise of the Tomb Raider and the vagueness of its release on PlayStation 4.

Even though Phil Spencer himself has admitted that Rise of the Tomb Raider is exclusive to Xbox for a limited period of time, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have been suspiciously quiet.

It could be due to a part of the deal between them and Microsoft, which bounds CD from talking of Rise of the Tomb Raider on other platforms.

Anyways, this rumour comes from an Xbox retail rep so take this news with a truck load of salt. She mentioned that Sony will file a lawsuit against Square Enix for not talking about the PlayStation version of the game.

Microsoft is publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider and is handling marketing side of things for the game.

Surely, MS will not speak about PlayStation and Tomb Raider together, and if there is any truth to this rumor, the only logical explanation I can think of is that, Microsoft has indeed bound CD from talking much about the game’s arrival on other platforms.

We don’t have specifics of the deal so nothing can be said for sure. Is there any basis here for Sony to file a lawsuit against Square Enix? I don’t think so.

Sony nor Microsoft own Tomb Raider, so those who own the franchise can choose to speak, market the game and go into a partnership with anyone they want.

We’ll have to wait and see if Sony or Square Enix say anything about it.
