Fallout Shelter Now Features a New Character from Fallout 4
After its reveal at E3 it is fair to say that Fallout Shelter has been a success for Bethesda with fans taking to running their own vaults in surprisingly high numbers. With a view on the game being free-to-play, there are some items that can be purchased but the players aren’t pushed into this.
Today Fallout Shelter has had an interesting update in the form of a Fallout 4 character. Preston Garvey, the leader of the Commonwealth Minutemen has been made available to add to players shelters. His weapon, the Laser Musket has also been made available for the members of the vaults.
If you want to use this character you won’t find him just appearing in your vault, he is what is known as a Legendary Dweller. These members of the community can only be added by opening a lunchbox that contains him.
The lunchboxes are given out to player as special awards for their hard work in the vaults. These lunchboxes can also be purchased with real-world money.
While this does generate revenue from the game for Bethesda they do state that the game hasn’t been created to make money from the fans. The ability to pay for lunchboxes is a shortcut for fans who want to rush things along.
Fallout Shelter is available on iOS devices for now but an Android version is promised in the near future. Released after the big reveal of Fallout 4, it was made available at just the right time to use the anticipation for the latest Fallout game, and managed to not seem like just another cash-in of the Fallout Franchise.
If Fallout Shelter is going to be used to reveal characters from Fallout 4 as Bethesda has done with Preston Garvey, this will keep fans interested in the game, as well as being a perfect marketing tool to raise anticipation even higher for the main game.
