Yoshi’s Woolly World will officially release on October 16 in North America for the Wii U, Nintendo announced during the company’s E3 2015 digital presentation.

The upcoming side-scrolling platformer was first unveiled during E3 2014, and features Mario’s favorite miniature green dinosaur, Yoshi, who is now made up of yarn. Players will be able to utilize his incredible knitting skills to weave and swing through their way across the world’s cutely designed fabric.

Today, Nintendo’s Emi Watanabe gave a little back-story of the game’s origins. The entire idea was apparently born through a crafting spree.

“At first I decided to make some yarn Yoshis just for fun,” Watanabe said, “because I’m not an artist or a programmer. … I went home and got some yarn and decided to make my very first yarn Yoshi. When I brought it back to the office, the smiles on the faces of my colleagues really struck me.”

Watanabe’s cute trinkets made it an easy decision to manufacture the retail Yoshi amiibos out of yarn.

“I fell in love tight the idea, and decided to make more yarn Yoshi prototypes.”
