Minions Paradise Attempts to Reel in the Despicable Me Fans
EA gave us a short glimpse into Minions Paradise during its E3 2015 press conference today, which is another mobile spin-off based on the Despicable Me franchise.
Set to launch this summer, players will be tasked with creating a “Minion utopia.” For this mission, players will play as an all-new Minion named Phil, who will lead the Minions forward to create the new world after being shipwrecked on a tropical island.
From the gameplay footage, the game will feature item crafting and various other activities such as fishing, water sliding, exploration, and even making Coconut drinks. Even though it’s a mobile game, EA described the gameplay as “open” where players can pretty much do whatever they like.
Minions Paradise will be released as a free-to-play game, supported by EA’s dreaded version of a microtransaction model. After years of greedy monetization of its mobile games, let’s hope the company has decided to start over in 2015 by not making this essentially a pay-to-win game.
Minions Paradise is the first title from EA under a new deal that will see the company push out multiple games based on the Despicable Me franchise.
