Clash of Clans Makes $1.56 Million in a Day Using the Freemium Model
If you are even a little bit into playing games on your mobile, chances are that you would have heard of Clash of Clans.
If not, I am sure that you would not have missed the Super Bowl trailer of the game that featured Liam Neeson himself who is going nuts for revenge against a player who attacked his village,
Anyhow, it is the highest earning game on iPhone and as we speak it is raking in $1.56 million per day!
If you compare Clash of Clans with other mobile games based on this ranked list, you will see major differences in how much other top 10 games are earning.
Here’s the complete list as shared by this website:
- Clash of Clans – $1.56 million
- Game of War – $1.09 million
- Candy Crush Saga – $931000
- Boom Beach – $378000
- Candy Crush Soda Saga – $299000
- Big Fish Casino – $251000
- Slotomania – $212000
- MARVEL Contest of Champions – $179000

Developer Supercell uses the popular “freemium” model to monetize the game which in turn lets them rake in so much from a game that is otherwise free to get.
CoC is free to download as well as free to play as long as you are patient enough. Most of the real cash comes in when you wish to speed up things (mostly upgrades to your troops, buildings, defenses or when you wish to get a shield against attacking enemies).
You can farm Gold, Elixir and Dark Elixir (or buy them) but the developers have put in Gems which are hard to get and they are the only item that you can use to bu the resources or to speed up things that would otherwise take days to complete in the game.
While other games in the list above also use the same freemium model, and cast celebrities like Kate Upton (Game of War) and now Mariah Carey for promotion, it is Clash of Clans that reigns over mobiles – for now.
