Street Fighter V Will Never Release On Xbox, Says Capcom
According to a Capcom representative, Street Fighter V will never be released for Xbox One or Xbox 360. Since the game was announced as a PlayStation 4 and PC exclusive, many fans were hoping to see a future “Super” or “Ultra” Edition of Street Fighter V for Xbox.
Sadly, as we now know, this will never happen.
The clarification is much appreciated as Capcom nor Sony choose to tip-toe around the question. Unlike Microsoft and Rise to the Tomb Raider, we now clearly know the extent of Sony and Capcom partnership.
One comment we see a lot is that something like a Super Street Fighter 5 is going to come out on Xbox. But the reality is that this is a real partnership. We are console exclusive for this franchise for this numbered run.
According to Capcom, the partnership has benefits beyond marketing support. The company refrained from talking about platform exclusive content at the moment.
We’re not talking about how we’re handling post-launch content, but I can say the relationship with Sony does open doors for things we haven’t been able to do in the past.
PlayStation 4 and PC version of Street Fighter V will feature cross-play functionality. Microsoft on the other hand isn’t too flexible when it comes to cross-play between platforms, especially not when we talk about PS4. This could be a reason behind Street Fighter V not being on Xbox One
With the release of Windows 10 upon us, Xbox One and Microsoft’s new OS is taking cross-play and cross-buy to the next-level. We will see more games on Xbox that will support cross-play, at least between Xbox One and PC.
