Pillars of Eternity Creator & Obsidian Entertainment Co-Founder Leaves Firm

By   /   1 year ago

Chris Avellone, co-founder and creative direct of Obsidian Entertainment and the man behind many RPG titles such as Planscape Torment, Neverwinter Nights 2, Fallout: New Vegas, and the recent Pillars of Eternity, has decided to leave the firm.

He announced his departure on Twitter in a lighthearted mood, but the reason for his resignation is currently unknown.

Avellone has also been pretty quiet about what he’ll do next (unless you’re taking his Defense against Dark Arts tweet seriously), but his involvement with other games such as Wasteland 2 and FTL: Advanced Edition suggests that he will continue working with various firms, who could greatly utilize his skill and experience in RPG game development.

Currently, Avellone is also Torment: Tides of Numenera, which is the spiritual successor to the highly acclaimed 1999 game Planescape: Torment. Chris co-founded Obsidian in 2003, and before that he was working for Interplay.

It’s safe to say that Chris Avellone has had an illustrious career with Obsidian, and will probably be at the helm of many other classic RPG titles to come in the future.
