It was confirmed in December that CI Games is working on Lords of the Fallen 2, and today the developer has revealed that the sequel to the original will not release until 2017.

The original Lords of the Fallen was co-developed between CI Games and Deck 13 Interactive. Speaking with Eurogamer recently at Digital Dragons in Poland, studio boss Marek Tyminski mentioned that Deck 13 will not be involved with the second installment.

He didn’t quite mention as to why the two have parted ways, but from his given statement, it seemed like a disagreement over specific development issues.

“We have spoken about certain things we could probably do after the release of Lords of the Fallen but at the end of the day we came to the conclusion, both sides, that it won’t happen, and as far as I know they have another project, and I wish them luck. We have very clear thinking on how we want to make Lords of the Fallen 2 and we have a very good idea.”

Deck 13 is currently working on a new game with Focus Home Interactive, which will be revealed at E3 2015.

Tyminski further revealed that Lords of the Fallen has so far sold over 900,000 units across all platforms since its release in October 2014. “It’s a good start for the new IP. Definitely we can say that Lords of the Fallen 1 proved the IP made sense.”

He also acknowledged the fact that the first had its share of problems. With the second game, they will be “taking all of the lessons” learned from that experience to create a much better game.
