Avengers’ Stars Apologize to Public for Their Sexist Joke on Black Widow
The Avengers: Age of Ultron press tour is creating more hype than the actual movie, or should we say making controversies? Avengers’ stars Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner who play the characters of Captain America and Hawkeye made a joke about Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in an interview with Digital Spy.
When they were asked about Black Widow’s flirtatious nature, as there is a romantic arc between Bruce Banner aka Hulk and Black Widow. And in the same storyline she wants to hook up with Cap and Hakeye, to this Renner joked ‘She’s a slut’ and Evans added ‘I was gonna say something along that line. She’s a complete wh*re!’
They both laughed, even the interviewer joked adding that her character is only there for flirting with the actual heroes. Following these comments, meant in a humorous manner, the public lashed out and criticized both of them for passing sexist remarks.
After this, both actors formally apologized to everyone that was offended by the joke. They presented that their joke was “tasteless” and “juvenile” and was not meant to target Johansson in any way. Read their formal apologies below!
“I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”- Jeremy Renner
“We were asked about the rumours that Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a very juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.” –Chris Evans
