This Dota 2 Mod Lets You Play the Game Like a Third-Person Shooter
DOTA 2 features the usual MOBA style camera view, but many of us wondered how it would feel to play the game from a totally different angle.
How about a third person mode? How about a way to play this MOBA like a third person shooter? Sounds pretty interesting to me.
It’s all possible thanks to a new mod called “Action Dota.” The mod in question will help you turn the game into a third person shooter. BMD Dota is the creator of this mod, he also gave the game some standard shooter controls. The mod was created using the Source 2 Dota 2 Engine.
BMD Dota also said he created his own system of movements that allows in-game characters to “jump and strafe, and turn at an infinite rate.”
The creator wrote on Reddit:
The camera controls are extremely hacked-in (but functional), and you can probably see in the video that each player has to select a flying enigma unit at the start which I detect and then use as the object to point the camera at. There is no facility currently available for me to manually reposition the camera except by locking the camera to the created “camera” unit, which results in some unfortunate limitations.
Currently, he is using a built-in Dota 2 Linear-Projectile system. However, he says he will have to tear-down and recreate it due to lack of support for 3D collisions and dynamic behavior.
