Cannes Film Festival: You Can Show Up Topless But No Selfies!
Looks like there won’t be more of those Oscar Selfies we have been seeing anymore. Cannes Film Festival 2015 bans taking selfies at the red carpet, the officials think that it is ‘ridiculous and grotesque’.
“We are waging a campaign to slow down the contemporary practice of selfies on the red carpet and the steps. Beyond what we think, it’s a practice that’s often extremely ridiculous and grotesque.”
Although the reason provided for discouraging taking selfies at the Cannes is justifiable. Festival head Thierry Frémaux says that they already have a limited time to get the celebrities up the steps. Selfies delay this process, while the interviews and photographs taken by journalists already are happening simultaneously.
“We don’t want to prohibit it, but it’s really a matter of timing. We have a certain amount of time to get people across the red carpet and up the steps and it really slows things down if people stop every two metres to take a picture of themselves, with themselves.”
Although they are not entirely banning it they are just trying to minimize the practice. I doubt these celebs would be listening to the Cannes’ strong stance on Selfies especially after the statement by Pierre Lescure, President of the Festival.
“It’s always the ugliest picture of you anyway.”
A lot of celebrities might just say ‘oh no you didn’t’ and then perhaps take more selfies to annoy them! That sight would be hilarious, actors taking selfies and posting #NoSelfie.
