Xbox One Over the Air TV Tuner Launched in US, Canada
If you thought that it was only the select European countries that are going to benefit from the Xbox One TV Tuner features, you were as wrong as wrong can be!
The service has now been extended to US as well as Canada and eleven other European countries including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland!
In order to bring the over-the-air TV functionality to the North American region they have partnered with Hauppauge, an industry veteran company when it comes to over-the-air TV.
Here’s the big news, in words of Microsoft itself:
Starting today, members of the Xbox One preview program in the U.S. and Canada can get over-the-air TV by purchasing the Hauppauge WinTV-955Q (MSRP $79.99 at Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and Micro Center), and an HDTV antenna. In the next few months, Xbox will be partnering with Hauppauge to release a lower cost version of this tuner, the Hauppauge TV Tuner for Xbox One, retailing for MSRP $59.99, and available to everyone in the U.S. and Canada.
So what does this mean, well over-the-air TV will bring you free access to channels like CBS, FOX, NBC, and PBS; and with Sling TV, to channels like ESPN, TNT, Disney Channel, Adult Swim among others.
In order to explain the features in detail, Larry Hryb the Director of Programming at Microsoft and Harrison Hoffman the Program Manager for TV and Entertainment at Microsoft sat together in a video.
