Pillars of Eternity Ranger Class Guide – Stats, Animal Companions and Talents

Pillars of Eternity

Rangers are primarily experts in Striking and Defense. They essentially rely on Offensive Abilities which grants them further power and strengths the link between them and their Animal Companions which they are able to summon in a fight.

Pillars of Eternity Ranger Class

The mostly rely on ranged weapons such as Crossbows and other firearms and extremely proficient with them. Following is everything you need to know about Ranger Class, their stats, and Animal Companions:

Beginning Stats

  • Endurance – 36 + 12/Level
  • Health – 5 x Endurance
  • Accuracy – 30 + 3/Level
  • Deflection – 20
  • Skill Bonus – Stealth +1 and Survival +2

Starting Ability – Animal Companion
Rangers are able to summon an Animal Companion to aid them in a battle which fights by their side and possess some decent stats.

Animal Companions

Boar Companion – Passive
Requirement: 0 summoned creatures

This summons Boar Companion vs. Deflection which deals more damage when they are below 50% Endurance.

Wolf Companion – Passive
Requirement: 0 summoned creatures

This summons Wolf Companion vs. Deflection which possesses high agility.

Antelope Companion – Passive
Requirement: 0 summoned creatures

This summons Antelope Companion vs. Deflection which possess high stats for Deflection, Fortitude, Reflex, and Will.

Stag Companion – Passive
Requirement: 0 summoned creatures

This summons Stag Companion vs. Deflection and deals high damage to all enemies standing near them.

Bear Companion – Passive
Requirement: 0 summoned creatures

This summons Bear Companion vs. Deflection and possess high Damage Reduction which protects them from most of the damage types.

Lion Companion – Passive
Requirement: 0 summoned creatures

This summons Lion Companion vs. Deflection which possesses the ability to terrify enemies with a loud roar.

Stalkers’ Link
Required Level: Level 5 – Passive

This allows Ranger and Animal Companion to fight side by side and grants Ranger with an Accuracy bonus.

Driving Flight
Required Level: Level 7 – Passive

Driving Flight allows Ranger to execute a Range Attack which bounces off the primary target and hits another enemy at 20-degree arc.

Binding Roots
Required Level: Level 9 – 5 per rest

Binding Roots allows Ranger to leave enemies Stuck for 30 seconds vs. Reflex.

Arrow Sense
Required Level: Level 5 – Passive

Arrow Sense allows Ranger to acquire +15 Deflection against ranged attacks.

Vicious Aim
Required Level: Level 3 – Modal

Vicious Aim allows Ranger to acquire x0.8 Rate of Fire, x0.8 Reload Speed, +10 Ranged Accuracy, and x1.2 Ranged Damage.

Stunning Shots
Required Level: Level 11 – Passive

Stunning Shots allows Ranger to leave enemies Stunned for 2 seconds vs. Fortitude.

Swift Aim
Required Level: Level 3 – Modal

Swift Aim allows Ranger to acquire x1.2 Attack Speed and x1.5 Reload Speed at the cost of -7 Accuracy.

Marked Prey
Required Level: Level 1 – 1 per encounter

Marked Prey allows Ranger to mark enemies for 30 seconds and acquire additional +20 damage against single-targeted enemies.

Wounding Shot
Required Level: Level 1 – 2 per encounter

Wounding Shot allows Ranger to leave enemies Hobbled for 10 seconds vs. Fortitude and lets Rangers to acquire x1 Damage inflicted Over Time vs. Deflection.

Defensive Bond
Required Level: Level 5 – Passive

Defensive Bond allows Ranger to fight alongside the Animal Companion and gain Defense when both are targeted by same area-of-effect attack.

Animal Companion Abilities

Predator’s Sense
Required Level: Level 3 – Passive

Predator’s Sense allows Ranger to acquire x1.5 Damage against targets affected by Damage over Time attack.

Takedown
Required Level: Level 7 – 1 per encounter

Takedown allows Ranger to leave enemies Prone for 10 seconds vs. Fortitude.

Master’s Call
Required Level: Level 9 – 3 per rest

Master’s Call allows Ranger to deal 15-20 Slash Damage and leave enemies Prone for 5 seconds vs. Fortitude.

Talents

Accurate Wounding Shot

This allows Ranger to leave enemies Hobbled for 10 seconds vs. Fortitude and acquire x1 Damage inflicted Over Time.

Brutal Takedown
This allows Ranger to leave enemies Prone for 10 seconds vs. Fortitude and deal 20 Crush Damage when using Takedown.

Faithful Companion
This allows Ranger to acquire +15 Defense against Charmed, Confused, and Dominated attacks.

Merciless Companion
With this talent, Animal Companions deal small amount of Sneak Attack damage to enemy targets.

Resilient Companion
This talent allows Rangers to acquire +3 Damage Reduction against all damage types.

Strengthened Bond
This further enhances the bonus provided by Defensive Bond and increases Interrupt chances by 15%.

Swift and Steady
This talent allows Ranger to acquire x1.2 Attack Speed and x1.5 Reload Speed at the cost of -7 Accuracy.

Thorny Roots
With this talent, Rangers leave enemies Stuck for 30 seconds vs. Reflex and deal 15 Pierce and Slash Damage.

Vicious Companion
This talent increases the damage dealt by Rangers’ Animal Companions.
