The Witcher 3: Two Expansion Packs Announced, Will Add Over 30 Hours of Gameplay
CD Projekt RED has announced two massive expansions for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that will add over thirty hours of additional story-driven gameplay.
Hearts of Stone will release first and take players on a ten-hour-plus adventure in the wilds of No Man’s Land and the alleys of Oxenfurt. Here players must complete a contract from the mysterious Man of Glass. However, as we’ve come to know about most of Geralt’s contracts, there is a thick web of deceit over this entire mission and he’ll have to use his cunning and strength to solve the mystery and emerge unscathed.
Blood and Wine is the second expansion pack and will add over twenty hours of gameplay. Players will be introduced to a new in-game region called Toussaint, a land that is untainted by war but unfortunately plagued with ancient rituals, and hiding bloody secrets.
“With the development of Wild Hunt coming to an end, the team has embarked upon the creation of two new really big adventures set in The Witcher universe,” said studio co-founder Marcin Iwiński.
“We remember the time when add-on disks truly expanded games by delivering meaningful content. As gamers, we’d like to bring that back. We’ve said in the past that if we ever decide to release paid content, it will be vast in size and represent real value for the money.
“Both our expansions offer more hours of gameplay than quite a few standalone games out there. While we’re offering the Expansion Pass now, we want to make one thing clear: don’t buy it if you have any doubts. Wait for reviews or play The Witcher and see if you like it first. As always, it’s your call.”
Available across all three platforms with pre-orders currently open, the ‘expansion pass’ will run you $24.99. Hearts of Stone will release in October, while Blood and Whine is pegged for the first quarter of 2016.
Previously, it was confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will feature sixteen pieces of DLC that will be released on weekly basis for free. These include new armor pieces, weapons, other equipment, and more.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to release on May 19.
