Nintendo NX Will Surprise Players and Change Their Lives, Says Iwata
Last week, Nintendo surprised everyone by announcing that it is working on a new hardware under the codename NX. Details about the device are being kept under wraps for now, but it was suggested that the “dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept” is going to replace the Wii U.
Speaking with Japanese publication Nikkei recently, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said that he couldn’t give details yet, but did stress how NX is going to feature life-changing innovations.
He said that Nintendo is not in favor of trying to build and expand upon existing hardware. Instead “in some shape or form, we’re always thinking about how we want to surprise players as well as our desire to change each person’s video gaming life.”
That’s about as vague as it comes, but it does suggests that NX is not simply going to be an improved version of Wii U with better hardware capabilities. The NX is being teased as a revolution, and Nintendo’s attempt at jumping far across the innovation line could either be a miss or hit.
Iwata has said that more details about NX will arrive next year.
