Nintendo Dismisses Live-Action Zelda Series Report

A previous report from the Wall Street Journal telling about the development of a live-action series based on The Legend of Zelda has been put down by Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata.

Speaking in a recent interview with Time Magazine, Iwata said that the report is not based on correct information.

“As of now, I have nothing new to share with you in regard to the use of our IPs for any TV shows or films,” he said, “but I can at least confirm that the article in question is not based on correct information.”

The report in question was made in February where “a person familiar with the matter” claimed that a series was being developed for Netflix. It was referred to as a family version of Game of Thrones, with hero Link rescuing Princess Zelda and protecting the land of Hyrule.

It was not surprising to see fans take the news with sheer zeal. Iwata putting the report down will no doubt make the Zelda crowd a bit disappointed, but perhaps Nintendo has something else up its sleeve.

A new installment in the franchise is expected to launch for the Wii U later this year. There could be other surprises being held up for E3 2015.
