Itagaki Explains Original Plans for His Version of Dead or Alive 5
Former Dead or Alive lead developer Tomonobu Itagaki has taken to Facebook to reveal his original plans for Dead or Alive 5.
Following into the events of Dead or Alive 4, Itagaki teased that the fifth installment would have Kasumi and Ayane meet in a snowstorm. During the confrontation, Kasumi misunderstands the reason Ayane has come, and shouts to her that everything has ended.
Ayane in return tells her sister that “our enemy is still breathing,” after which she loses strength. Before passing out though, she tells Kasumi that she has killed Miyako.
Miyako is mother of Kokoro, another woman who permitted bearing a child of Fame Douglass, Helena’s father, making Helena and Kokoro half sisters. Killing Miyako would potentially mean Kokoro would turn on the Mugen Tenshin clan, and also setup more fighting with DOATEC.
Itagaki ultimately decided to cancel the game because it was “impossible to work with a liar.” While the developer didn’t give out names, it is assumed that his beef has something to do with former Tecmo Koei head Yoshimi Yasuda.
Itagaki had sued Yasuda (now president of Kadokawa Games) for damages for “unreasonable and disingenuous statements” which Yasuda made in front of Itagaki’s colleagues. Additionally, the same lawsuit was part of another where Itagaki slammed Tecmo for withholding previously owned bonuses.
In the past, Itagaki has commented how he feels the costume DLC for Dead or Alive 5 is a bit excessive. You can read his complete statement on his Facebook page.
