Downtown Abbey Season 6 Might be the Last
Reportedly, Downtown Abbey’s sixth season will be its final season.
Downtown Abbey’s Maggie Smith announced a few weeks ago that season six would be her last season. Now TvLine breaks the news that it just won’t be the end of Smith’s time on the show but season six will be the last time we see Downtown Abbey.
The news source elaborates as to why the season is ending, “The decision to end Downton was mostly a practical one—the cast’s contracts expire at the end of Season 6 and, with one or two possible exceptions, the actors are ready to move on.”
“You can keep the show going without Matthew and Sybill, but you can’t continue it without the entire Crawley family,” an insider told TvLine.
Maggie Smith revealed to the Sunday Times in hints that the show is coming to its end.
“I can’t see how it could go on. I mean, I certainly can’t keep going. To my knowledge, I must be 110 by now. We’re into the late 1920s.”
This gives Edith, Mary and Carson &Hughes only 9 episodes to find happiness, her perfect match and pull off an amazing wedding.
The creators of Downtown Abbey have not yet announced the cancellation officially but we will keep you posted as soon as the news is confirmed.
