Halo 5: Guardians Will Bring Back Cortana for Key Role

Mike Colter, the actor who plays Agent Locke in the Halo: Nightfall series, has revealed that Cortana has an important part to play in Halo 5: Guardians.

Talking with IGN about how his character Locke will join the cast alongside some returning favorites, Colter said:

“When he goes into Halo 5, you’ll see him transition into a Spartan, a super soldier. It’s a prominent role within the game. Obviously Master Chief will be involved, Cortana, but Locke will be one of the playable characters in Halo 5.”

The artificial intelligence Cortana has been serving as a guide for protagonist Master Chief since Halo: Combat Evolved was released in 2001 on the original Xbox. She has been a key element in each installment. However, at the end of Halo 4, Cortana sacrifices herself to protect Master Chief and to defeat the game’s final boss, the Didact.

From Colter’s statement, she will somehow be brought back in the new Halo installment to play a key role. There’s no telling how that will be made possible, and much of Halo 5: Guardians’ story is still a mystery. 343 Industries will probably be revealing more teasers as we approach closer to the release date.

Halo 5: Guardians is in development for the Xbox One and will release later this year during the holiday season.
